Fremont, Ohio

Shirley M. Meek, age 74, of Fremont, Ohio, passed away on December 10, 2025. Shirley was born on April 1, 1951, in Sandusky, Ohio to Harold and Alice Kays. A compassionate, creative, loving, and thoughtful woman, she dedicated her life to her family and her community.

Shirley married Denton W. Meek on December 31, 1990 and he preceded her in death on April 30, 2015. Shirley worked as a Production Operator at Whirlpool in Clyde and Lebra in Fremont, Ohio. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her dedication to her family and her community. She was a member and past president of the Clyde VFW Women's Auxiliary and volunteered her time and talents to assist with funeral luncheons and creating lap blankets for soldier and sailor homes. A lover of sewing and crafts, she sewed thousands of masks during the covid pandemic for nursing homes in her area, showcasing her creative and loving nature. Shirley’s favorite pastimes were watching Hallmark movies, watching game shows, and most significantly, playing Mrs. Claus alongside her husband as Santa during the holidays. It was once said, "The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others." This quote truly encapsulates Shirley's life and her impact on those around her.

Shirley is survived by her children, June Kays of Clyde, OH, Sean (Terri) Meek of Clyde, Ohio, and Maureen "Mo" (Kim Styer) Risch of Clyde, Ohio; her grandchildren, Kaylee Kays, Paige Risch, Dakota Risch, Shandi Swain, Brittney Koch, Ariel Meek, and Christian Hummel-Meek; 10 Great-Grandchildren; siblings, Deb Kays, Diane Keathley, Joe Kays, Madge Billinger, Angie Hatfield, and Buddy Hatfield.
