Rodger D. Yates

–

Sandusky, Ohio

Rodger D. Yates, born on the 1st of April 1947 in Charleston, WV, passed on Wednesday March 12, 2025 following a 28-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. A dedicated and loving man, Rodger was known for his dry humor and generosity. He was born with a heart full of love for his family and friends, and he never hesitated to share that love with those around him. He met the love of his life, Linda, and they were married on June 22, 1968, creating a life together filled with laughter and love, cherishing every moment they spent together.

Rodger was a hard worker, first as a manager at Miller's Super Value, and then as a custodian at Clyde Local Schools. He was known for his dedication to his job and his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others he crossed paths with. The teachers and staff at Clyde Schools left a huge impression on Rodger and it is hoped he did the same to them. After serving his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, he served as a member and officer of the Green Springs V.F.W. for 60 years. Rodger supported his fellow Veterans in many capacities.

He found joy in the simple things in life, such as fishing and camping, and his dedication to his family was evident in everything he did.

His love for his children and grandchildren was immeasurable, and he was a beacon of strength and love for his entire family. As Rodger would say, "Spend more time with family, share the love." As the saying goes, "A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty."

Rodger is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Tami Sardinha, Gwen (Bob) Tiell, and Stephen (Jennifer) Yates; siblings, Carolyn (Duane) Copsey, Terry (Cheryl) Yates, and Brenda (Chris) Fortney. His adoring grandchildren, Erica Sardinha, Bode Sardinha, Shaye (Stephen) Denissoff, Jacob (Taylor Belcher) Tiell, Ryan (Rylin Lybarger) Tiell, Andrew (Wendy Olvera) Frederick, Maximus Yates, Alexander (Aaliyah Young) Yates, Ryan Averitt, Ella Yates, and Sean Averitt; and great-granddaughter Sofia Frederick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Peggy Yates, and his brother, Ron Yates.

The visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Auxter-Recker Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St, Clyde, Ohio, and 11am till the funeral service 1:00pm, Tuesday, March 18, 2025 in the Funeral Home. We will celebrate the life of this loving and dedicated man.

In honor of Rodger's memory, we invite you to share your favorite stories and upload photos of him to the memorial page. These memories will serve as a testament to the life he lived and the love he shared.
