Kathryn (Bowers) Adams Obituary (1929

Kathryn (Kate) Ann Adams lived a long fulfilling life passing peacefully at her home on October 13, 2024. She was born on May 27, 1929 to Augusta (Schackow) Bowers and George W. Bowers in Defiance, Ohio. Kathryn married Graydon Sherred Adams on October 22, 1949 and they celebrated 65 years together. Surviving are her children - Jon (Eileen) Adams, Kevin (Kimberly) Adams, and Cheryl (Todd Schroeder) Schmidt, 8 grandchildren - Eli (Jana) Adams, Leonore K. Adams, Bryan (Courtney) Adams, Kristen (Jeff) LeJeune, Elizabeth (Adam) Schoendorf, Nicholas (Bianca) Adams, Alandra Schmidt (widow of Alex Schmidt), Ian (Ryan Friess) Schmidt, Tyler J. Schmidt, 11 great grandchildren - Juno Adams, Janelle Adams, Juliana Adams, Jaafar Hijazi, Eli Hijazi, Graydon M. Adams, Lucas (Cailin) LeJeune, Logan LeJeune, Lily LeJeune, Ash Schoendorf, Ava Schoendorf and 1 great great grandchild- Joselle LeJeune. Kate graduated from Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus, Ohio in 1949. She was passionate about the Lutheran Church which supported her during her early years at the Detroit Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit, Michigan. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved keeping abreast of family events and especially loved sharing the information with others before they heard it from someone else. She was an excellent baker and the family enjoyed her cherry pies, even requesting them for their birthday instead of a cake. She also enjoyed spending time sewing and embroidering. Kate was born with the 'Bowers' gene. She was always very thrifty and was known for stretching the dollar by canning vegetables which they grew in their garden. In her younger years Kate loved staying active. She enjoyed swimming, bike riding, cross country skiing, and walking. She also enjoyed traveling, having gone on many cruises, traveling with her sisters and brothers and camping with her family and with her friends in the Silent Wanderers camping group. In recent years Kate enjoyed her iPad, Facebook, Snapchat, online games, reality television, the Ohio Lottery, and word searches. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Graydon Sherred Adams, Jr., her twin brothers, Harry Bowers and Harold Bowers, her sisters, Alyce M. Goll and Carolyn R. Augustine, and her grandson, Alexander G. Schmidt. Kate was known for her beautiful smile that would light up a room and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her. A celebration of Kathryn's life will be held on November 2, 2024 at the VFW, 847 W. Maple Street, Clyde, Ohio 43410 from 12:00-4:00. There will be a remembrance at 12:00 followed by a luncheon and fellowship. Please come and share your memories of Kathryn with her family and friends.
