John C. "Jack" Ashton Jr, 90, of Clyde, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026. Born on September 15, 1936, in Fremont, OH, Jack was a friendly, talented, supportive, and courageous soul who left an indelible imprint on everyone he encountered.
Jack was an Army veteran who served in West Berlin as a Russian linguist during the early part of the Cold War. He was a dedicated professional, serving as the Deputy Auditor for Sandusky County, and later as the Finance Director for the City of Clyde. His talent and hard work led him to retire in 1995, having made significant contributions to the city's financial management. Jack's professional prowess was not his only talent. He was also a dedicated trumpet player who had the natural ability to pick up and play almost any instrument. His love of music was a hobby he enjoyed throughout his life and passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was active in several clubs and lodges, including the Clyde Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club of Clyde, Clyde Moose, and Clyde Eagles. His integrity and commitment to service, coupled with his funny and supportive nature, made him a beloved member of these communities.
Jack, a loving father, and caring friend, found the most joy in his devotion to his family and friends. He is survived by his children: Kimberly (Tom) Luebcke, Brett Ashton, Dusty (Victoria) Ashton, Scott Athey and Todd (Lynn) Ashton; grandchildren, Chuck Hall, Brad Luebcke, Gwen Ashton, Meghan (Matthew) Schatt, Leo Disantis, Eric (Connor) Ashton, Sarah (James) Whitney, Rebecca Ashton, Nathaniel Ashton, Monika (Ian) Holmes, Jennifer (Ethan) Ashton, Zane Aljabi and Eva Kass, along with nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia (Smith) Ashton, his parents, John and Bernice Ashton, his daughter, Deborah McGrath, and his brother, Gerald Ashton. As the famous quote says, "A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." So does the soul of our beloved father, Jack Ashton.
A memorial service will be conducted, 12 noon, Sunday, November 1st, 2026, at the Moose Lodge, 134 Eaton Ave, Clyde Ohio. Military honors will follow at the Moose as well as a celebration of life. Burial will be in MacPherson Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Jack may be made to support the clubs he loved and served in his life.
We encourage all who knew and loved Jack to share their memories of this wonderful man. Please upload photos and leave your stories on the memorial page as a way of celebrating the funny, talented, supportive, and courageous life that he led. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
