Herbert H. Dwight

Herbert H. Dwight, 68, of Clyde, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on September 10, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on September 30, 1957, in Bellevue, Ohio, to Charles and Mary (Good) Dwight. Herb, also known lovingly as Herbie, Herbster, and Chip, was a charismatic and spirited soul, full of wit and generosity. He married Sandra Barnes on June 29, 2001 at Mt. Carmel Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and later in the Army Reserve for over 20 years, serving during Desert Storm.

Herb dedicated his life to God, his family and his church. He was a man of many passions, which included hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, and dart ball. He reveled in the thrill of riding his motorcycle, venturing on multiple trips to Sturgis and other bike rallies with his brother, Brian. A dedicated member of his community, Herb served as the Committee Chairman for the Mt. Caramel Boy Scouts Troop #406 and was an active participant in the Mt. Carmel Dart Ball League. He was a life member of the Clyde VFW Post #3343. His religious devotion was evident through his diligent service on the Board of Trustees at Mt. Carmel Church. He was also a proud blood donor through the American Red Cross, donating over 20 gallons in his lifetime.

Herb is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Dwight of Clyde, OH; Sons, Henry (Melissa) Dwight of Crown Point, IN and Jonathon Barnes of Fremont, OH; daughters, Rochelle (Bryan) Carnicom of Fremont, OH, Casey (Douglas) Koss of Oregon, OH; 7 grandchildren, McKayla, Allen, Asa, Mya, Jonah, Ami and Braylen; siblings, Mary Lengyel of Wakeman, OH, Brian Dwight of Norwalk, OH, Sue Benfer of Sandusky, OH, and Douglas Dwight of Bellevue, OH. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Dwight.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 from 4:00pm-7:00pm in the Auxter-Recker Funeral Home, 218 South Main Street, Clyde, OH, 43410. A funeral service in memory of Herb will be conducted by Pastor Steve Engle on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 11:00am at Mt. Carmel Global Methodist Church, 4997 County Road 183, Clyde, Ohio, 43410. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted. Memorial contributions in honor of Herbert H. Dwight may be made to the Mt. Carmel Boy Scout Troop #406.
