Charles Barr

–

CLYDE, OH

Charles Edmund Barr, 86, a spirited and generous soul fondly known as Cub, Charlie, and Chuck, peacefully left us on July 7, 2026 at University Hospital, Cleveland. Born on July 20, 1939, in Johnson, Ohio, to the late Florabel and Lemuel Barr.

Charles was a retired railroad clerk who spent 42 dedicated years with Nickle Plate and Norfolk Southern. His career was a testament to his unwavering spirit and steadfast work ethic. But what mattered most to our dear Charles was his love for sports and his family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Clyde. He played baseball, men's softball, tennis, bowling, golfing, and pickle ball, and he loved to travel in his RV. He was also a member of Toastmasters in Fremont and Coshocton. Charles was always supportive and helped remodel the wrestling room at Clyde-Green Springs Schools. Charles was a lifelong fan of The Clevland Indians and The Cleveland Browns. Some of his fondest memories were spent in Sebring, FL at the Indians Spring Training camp. He had a soft spot for little league baseball and flag football, often coaching the local teams with a compassionate heart.

Charles is survived by his loving wife Becky; his children: Steve (Cindy) Barr, Debra (Scott) Laurer, Jason (Heather) Barr; his grandchildren Ashley (Eric) Diamond, Kristen (Dean) Wood, Courtney (Izz) Venegas, the late Heather Laurer, Amanda (Zack) Stine, Grant Barr; his great-grandchildren Antonio Venegas, Amyah Venegas, Camden Stine, Kinslee Stine, Channing Stine, Aria Diamond, Hudson Diamond, Sienna Wood, Austin Wood; and his great-great grandson Greyson Venegas. He also leaves behind his brother Gene Barr and sister Shirley McElrath and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Betty Barr and Darlene Heflick.

In honor of his life, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Clyde, or the Clyde Flier Nation Boosters.

We invite all who knew and loved Charles to leave memories and upload photos to the memorial page. His life was an embodiment of generosity, compassion, and supportive spirit, and he will be deeply missed by all.
